The Enterprise Risk Management and Insurance Department provides unique services to PG&E Corporation and its subsidiary, Pacific Gas and Electric Company that are not duplicated by any single or group of departments within PG&E. Position Summary
This position supports ongoing programs that facilitate and monitor the status of activities that prevent and/or minimize the consequences of fire, mechanical breakdown and natural hazard risks. Some of the activities include; identification of risks and providing mitigation strategies for loss potentials which have direct impact on safety, reliability, and regulatory offices, and represents PG&E on national committees/standards making bodies.
Responsibilities:
*(25%) Perform loss control inspections, plan review, new construction property loss control specifications development and direct involvement promoting loss control issues.
*(25%) Provide code interpretations and design guidance consistent with nationally recognized codes and standards. Also, act as liaison with AHJ on various fire protection issues.

About the Opportunity
This Engineer, located in Reading, PA, performs Transmission Planning or Protection activities on the FirstEnergy transmission system by conducting analysis of the Transmission Network, supporting maintenance of transmission system databases, and evaluating, recommending, and initiating projects to correct overloads, under-voltage conditions, stability concerns, improve system reliability and/or to increase revenues for the Corporation. Evaluate the impacts and facility addition requirements associated with new loads, generation and power transfer reservations. Coordinate activities within the Transmission Group and with Regions, Power Plants, other transmission customers, neighboring utilities, RTOs, and applicable Regional Reliability Organizations. Planning Specific Responsibilities:
Responsible for support for planning across FirstEnergy transmission and sub-transmission systems in the MISO (ATSI, and Ohio operating companies)and PJM (Penelec, MetEd and JCPL) footprints:
* Provide support to System Control Centers and Regional Distribution System Operations control centers to complement their network analysis. Frequently this support requires rapid turn-around of an evaluation of the whether the system can accommodate an outage and still remain in a secure condition should the next contingency occur.
* Perform analysis of the bulk and area transmission systems as well as the subtransmission system to ensure compliance with regional and internal reliability standards. Propose, cost justify, and initiate projects to mitigate any deficiencies that are identified. If capital projects cannot be implemented in the needed time, an operation solution is identified and presented to Operations for implementation.
* Maintain transmission system power flow model including topology, ratings, impedances, and generating unit capacities in coordination with the Planning and Protection Support Section within EDPP.
* Work with various industry groups to 1) Meet requirements and obligations that FirstEnergy has within the industry and 2) Promote FirstEnergy ideas methods and procedures the industry should be using as it moves forward. Formal industry groups include RFC, MISO, and PJM.
* Work to meet requirements of various governmental agencies such as PUCO and FERC by providing input to filings as required.

About the Opportunity
This position is accountable to provide the primary link between Sammis Plant Engineering, Sammis Operations Support, and Energy Delivery Substation Maintenance Corporate, Regional and System Control Groups, regarding all activities in the plant's 138 kV and 345 kV Substations.
This person will monitor all PM, CM, and commissioning activities of plant substation equipment, including GSU, AUX and station power transformers, circuit breakers, MOD's, disconnect switches, and relays, to assure that equipment is available for service and that maintenance is current.
Work in unison with plant electricians and planners to effect the timely completion of PM and CM on substation equipment.
Evaluate equipment test reports and recommend corrective action.
Evaluate and improve existing test methods and procedures.
Analyze and prepare plans and budgets for substation improvement projects; Work with the plant budget group to prepare cost justifications.
Supply technical support and/or direction as necessary on substation and plant relaying questions including calibration, troubleshooting, and analysis of protective relaying operations.
Use technical skills for problem solving.
Perform complex failure analyses to identify root cause of equipment failures.
Prepare summary reports for outages, root cause equipment failure analyses and capacity incident reports.
Respond to various troubleshooting requests, operating problems, and failures on substation equipment on both an emergency and routine basis.
Support plant operation and maintenance activities to assure reliable operation of substation equipment.
Evaluate opportunities to apply new technology at Sammis to improve substation performance.
On assigned capital and O&M projects coordinate all associated work with plant and internal and external engineering services; Track status of projects and expedite activities to meet established schedules.
Work with Sammis Outage Group to help provide management and coordination of substation forced and scheduled outages as appropriate.

Qualifications
Required

About the Opportunity
This position provides technical support for issues related to the Bruce Mansfield Plant Air Quality Control System, including flue gas desulfurization (FGD), venturi scrubbers, electrostatic precipitators, induced draft fans, and ancillary equipment. The candidate should have a working knowledge of wet FGD chemistry; pumps; piping systems; sludge thickeners; flow characteristics of slurries; process instrumentation; process control fundamentals; chemical compatibility of materials; fans and duct flow.
Duties include:
1) Monitoring system operation and identifying process problems, their root causes, and solutions.
2) Developing proper operating protocols for long-term solutions to persistent problems.

You will plan, organize, and direct activities of System Protection Control engineers and craftsmen in the following: prepare equipment specifications, maintenance standards and procedures; prepare engineering studies to determine causes of equipment failures and report out devise and coordinate test programs to locate malfunctioning system components; plan equipment replacements and integration of new equipment into the system; analyze proposals for enhancements to facilities and makes recommendations; conduct tests and energizes new system control and protection and metering equipment; coordinate system protection schemes with customers, industrial plants, and other utilities; develop requirements forecasts for new tools and test equipment; devise special test schemes to analyze unique situations or problems. Overview:
Receive, verify and schedule energy transactions from NERC E-Tags and the Midwest ISO Physical Scheduling System ensuring representation of transmission, market services, and operating limits are not exceeded by the impact of the schedules. Interact with market participants, market operations and reliability coordinators to resolve tagging issues. Receive, verify and approve transmission service requests ensuring compliance with the tariff, accuracy with Available Flowgate Capacity calculations and analyze requests for implications on selling new service, both in real time and for the near-term future.
Responsibilities:
• Monitor and validate energy transactions ensuring tags and schedules are within operating limits of the transmission and market services.
• Perform before the fact, hourly, and end of day checkouts.
• Monitor Suspended Schedule Category and update dynamic schedules in the Physical Scheduling System.
• Resolve MW discrepancies between Balancing Authorities.
• Coordinate schedule curtailments as a result of the NERC Transmission Line Loading Relief.
• Ensure compliance with Midwest ISO Open Access Tariff, related policies and procedures, NERC standards and provides access to the transmission system in accordance with the Tariff.
• Approve or deny transmission and ancillary service requests.
• Intervene in the use of the automatically calculated AFC values.
• Partner with control room personnel and market participants to resolve and ensure energy transactions maintain compliance and reliability of the transmission system.
Qualifications:
Education:
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology or related technical field.
• Education equivalency may be established with a combination of education, training, certifications, and directly related experience.
• NERC Reliability Authority (or System Operator) Certification required, or must be able to obtain NERC Certification within six months of employment.
Experience:
• One year electric utility operations or transmission service environment required.
• OASIS, transmission system operations pref
