Laboratory Manager

Manages laboratory resources to assure the quality, integrity, continuity and proper dispersion of analytical data generated by the laboratory personnel. Sets strategic direction for refinery product quality conformance and lab capability. Acts as liaison between the lab and other departments. Serves as a technical resource for operational issues including problem solving, engineering studies and unit surveys. Implements non-routine studies. Ensures reliable and efficient laboratory operations. Coordinates equipment support at laboratories. Negotiates with third party vendors. Understands refinery related government regulations and interfaces with government inspectors. Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements for final products and environmental testing. Provides final review of all process and certification data. Demonstrates proficiency with laboratory software and instrumentation. Serves as administrator for the laboratory information system and data acquisition software. Prepares and stewards laboratory annual capital and expense budgets.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering required. Master’s degree in Chemistry preferred. Minimum ten years experience in a petroleum refinery laboratory required, including hands-on experience with instrumentation, test material, wet test methods and ASTM testing processes. Must have at least three years of experience managing Quality Assurance / Quality Control processes and procedures in a refinery lab. Supervisory experience preferred.

System Forestry Coordinator

Responsible for the coordination of forestry activities for the T&D system including performance analysis of various program initiatives. In conjunction with forestry management, responsible for the allocation of resources, contract management and oversight, program status and interface with external stakeholders, both within and outside of AEP.
Develop and maintain performance analysis of various program initiatives, allocation of resources, contract management and program status to enhance program and corporate goals.
Assist in managing contractor oversight programs, including work quality, productivity and safety.
Assist in developing annual operations, maintenance and capital budgets for the forestry function.
Coordinate the development and recommendations for approval for policies, practices and procedures pertaining to right-of-way maintenance activities.
Coordinate the development and application of new technologies to enhance right-of-way maintenance programs.
Coordinate the development of new methods to be used in performing right-of-way maintenance work and make recommendations concerning their use.
Recommend future line clearance requirements for both short-term and long-term vegetation management plans.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelors degree in forestry, arboriculture, engineering, business or finance, or equivalent education and/or experience.
Minimum of 8 years' related experience.

In this role, you will: • Organize, monitor and promote safe & effective work practices of company and contract personnel to insure that all contractors are performing work as professionals, meeting expectations, ethically, consistently, practicing correct arboricultural procedures and review completed work to enforce contract specifications. • Insure that timing of mowing or herbicide applications is appropriate to obtain adequate efficacy while maintaining appropriate aesthetics. • In consultation with the reliability engineers and local staff, develop vegetation management budgets, procedures and schedules that provide safe, reliable and efficient electric service and environmental stewardship. • Determine efficiency standards and provide feedback to contractors to achieve productivity expectations. • Communicate to community, environmental and regulatory organizations to promote and build acceptance of our vegetation management program and CPD’s image. • Act as a liaison with engineering and other departments to consult and satisfy the vegetation management needs and insure compliance with environmental, wetland and other vegetation management regulations. • Provide cost estimates and direct necessary capital clearing as requested by engineering. • Have an overall understanding of the Region’s distribution vegetation maintenance needs and adopt management procedures to provide continual improvement. • Conduct an overview of the prioritized circuits to identify unique problems and extent of various work types. • Insure that contract planners provide overview and detailed plans for all necessary work on the planned circuits. The Senior Geologist is responsible for the geoscience support associated with exploration and development opportunity evaluation, reserve analysis, business planning, performance monitoring, and opportunity evaluation and exploitation associated with managing the performance and growth of the upstream assets. About the Opportunity
This Manager position, which may be located in Youngstown or Fairlawn, is responsible for developing, planning and executing (bidding and contract management) the work involved with Forestry Operations, including planning future vegetation maintenance projects and ensuring region forestry budget targets are achieved. Oversees the work functions of the Forestry Planners, including field inspections and quality checks of contracted tree crews for adherence to FirstEnergy vegetation maintenance policies; investigation of customer tree-related inquiries; determination of impact of tree conditions to FirstEnergy facilities; technical support to internal customers within the region; dispatching contracted crews when the emergency restoration plan has been implemented in support of the storm process. Provides direct supervision to Forestry Planners, including formal and informal evaluation processes, and implements appropriate development plans and administers required supervisory guidance over contracted tree companies for the region. Travel throughout the Ohio Edison/Penn Power service territory is required. Can work from either Youngstown or Fairlawn. 24/7/365 storm management response is also expected.
Qualifications
Required
Candidate must have a Bachelor's Degree in forestry or related industry experience.
Must possess previous management experience and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Must have strong project management experience including managing contractors and effectively dealing with customers.
Candidate should be able to communicate and present himself/herself in a professional manner, demonstrate excellent public speaking and presentation skills, be able to effectively handle conflict and testify in legal issues.
Demonstrated the ability to meet deadlines and work safely.
Preferred basic knowledge of National Electrical Safety Code and National Electrical Code, as well as working knowledge of overhead and underground construction methods, maintenance practices, overhead and underground construction standards, rates, procedures and service practices.
Previous experience using CREWS, AM/FM, and PowerOn computer systems, and basic knowledge of PC software applications, including Microsoft Office and Lotus Notes, a plus.
Excellent interpersonal skills, strong written and verbal communication skills and strong analytical ability are required.
Knowledge of the Industry Accident Prevention is a plus.
Valid driver's license and personal vehicle required.
